Prosthodontics is a speciality, dealing with the restoration of oral function creating complete dentures, crowns, implant retained/supported restorations. Maxillofacial prosthetics is a sub-specialty of prosthodontics practiced in the department to treat patients who have acquired and congenital defects of the head and neck (maxillofacial) region i.e. due to surgery, trauma, and/or birth defects. The department has been instructing undergraduates with separate practical hall for dental materials, and pre-clinical prosthetic lab. In the III and IV year, undergarduates are guided by competent clinicians and acadamecians in complete dentures and can handle simple cases.

The post graduate intake began in 2006 with 3 seats per year and later was increased to 5 seats per year. Post graduates are exhaustively trained in complete dentures, removable partial dentures, cast partial dentures, full mouth rehabilitation and maxillofacial prosthesis. The highly disciplined training for postgraduates helps them to undergo the 3-year course and gears them up to face the challenges they may face thereafter. Perfection and Patient satisfaction are the key-motivating factors .The excellent fully equipped laboratory boasts of metal free ceramic furnaces and ultramodern casting machines. The ceramic laboratory further helps in realizing the goals of the department with excellent aesthetic results. The department library is adequately stocked with textbooks, seminars and journals with internet facility.

Dentistry, the word reminds each one of us of noisy drills and fillings. Conservative dentistry is a subject which includes Endodontics, and is all about operative procedures for the restoration of our teeth. Our division has a strong teaching and clinical record and special expertise in the evaluation of new restorative materials and techniques. The popularity of the department for graduate and post graduate education is derived from the personal attention of enthusiastic clinicians who are interested in latest techniques of treatment.

The department treats an average of 32,000 patients annually and has state of the art technology, dedicated staff and infra structure to render good services to the patients.

The department constantly updates itself with equipments and materials to render treatment effectively. The department has full fledged pre-clinical lab equipped with phantom heads where pre clinical students have feel of treatment procedure before they are carried out in patients.

Post graduate training is highly disciplined and systematic. The novices are trained under guidance to carry out assortment of treatments which vary from complex restorations, cast restorations, like inlay, veneers, bleaching, smile designing and endodontic procedures like microscope assisted root canal treatment, post endodontic restorations, re-treatment procedures which includes removal of fractured instruments with instrument retrival kit.

This specialty is very dynamic and we are proud to say that we as a unit have carved niche for ourself with the latest state of art facilities like endodontic microscope, in office bleaching light, RVG, latest rotary system, instruments, retrieval kit to name a few. The department is proud to be one of its kinds in central India which offers a wide range of academic knowledge.

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Modern Dental College and Research Center is hailed as one of the best of its kind in the city today. It is divided into an undergraduate clinic, post graduate clinic, a major operation theatre and in-patient wards. The clinic includes dental chairs and a separate sterilization bay. The department enjoys the facility of having an exclusive theatre of its own, which functions on all working days with the entire spectrum of maxillofacial cases being treated. It has been divided into the main theatre, anaesthesia & pain clinic, autoclave room, stores and recovery room.

The undergraduate clinic caters to basic exodontias needs of the patient while the postgraduate clinic encompasses all the other types of surgeries from impactions to clefts. The clinic with state of the art facilities can rival that of any of its grade around the country. The reputation of the department for its outstanding management in the field of oro facial trauma, facial reconstruction including cleft lip and palate, jaw and T.M.J. joint disorders, has made it distinct from the rest. The hospital provides patients with a complete range of primary and specialty- care services which makes us popular amongst the local population.

In the year 2006 the postgraduate wing in Maxillofacial Surgery was begun at this famed institution and has four Postgraduates joining every year. The department reflects the progress of the specialty in itself, and would strive to be the most advanced Cranio-facial center over the years. New realms in Cranio-facial surgery are being addressed along with complex Oral cancer operative procedures.

Gum Diseases are severe in our country, and gums form the surrounding structure around the tooth hence Periodontics. The word Periodontics comes from the Greek word peri meaning around and Odon's meaning tooth. Literally taken, it means study of that which is "around the tooth".The Department of Periodontics, at our institute is committed for achieving optimal oral health care and high quality, state-of-the-art periodontal treatment. This department aspires to be recognized as one of the best of its class in the country today. Thanks to outstanding educational programs, excellence in patient care and the cutting-edge research. The program includes a diverse schooling in clinical instruction,and patient management.

This illustrious department started its post graduate wing in the year 2006 and it has grown in leaps and bounds There are 15 postgraduate students, 5 in each batch. The M.D.S. program lasts for a period of 3 years and prepares the novice for certification in the specialty of Periodontics during that time frame, they undergo extensive training in different treatment modalities including flap surgeries, bone grafts etc.

A lot of work in the field of research as well as treatment of various periodontal pathologies has been carried out from time to time and several continuing education lectures are held educating dentist in and around the city. With some of the National Stalwarts in the team in this department it is sure to reach the numero uno some day.

Welcome to the Department of Orthodontics of Modern Dental College & Research Centre. Orthodontics, the first specialty of dentistry; is concerned with aligning the teeth and jaws to improve one’s smile, oral health and function. The mission of the Department is directed at holistic academic and moral development of graduate and post graduate students; to provide an environment to encourage and support research, with utmost intention to provide quality orthodontic care to the society. The department is headed by Dr P G Makhija and supported by a well balanced team of experienced teaching and non teaching staff.

It occupies a prominent location on the first floor of the institution building; Facilities include a graduate and a post-graduate orthodontic clinic and laboratory; reception and waiting area; sterilization area, department library, photography section, record room, orthodontic technique section for undergraduates, seminar room and faculty cabins. Department is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art equipments and has adequate clinical material both providing a conducive atmosphere for a balanced academic program.

Departmental research activities are quite broad covering such areas as imaging technology, FEM, material and clinical research, psychosocial aspects of health care, as well as, being focused on fundamental basic science research and discovery.Undergraduate Training

Comprehensive dental health care requires that the general dentist should have basic knowledge of Orthodontic and Dentofacial problems. The curriculum emphasizes critical thinking and problem-solving skills while underscoring the distinction between limited and comprehensive orthodontic treatment and the indications for each level of service. Students are challenged to demonstrate their ability to recognize, describe, evaluate, and manage orthodontic problems based on clinical case histories and clinical simulation.Post graduate Training

The Orthodontics Postgraduate Training Program is designed to train clinical specialists at the postgraduate level in subject matter which is covered extensively by Seminars, Journal Clubs and Lectures. Emphasis is laid on a thorough diagnosis of all cases followed by critical understanding of each treatment philosophy and the ability to apply them clinically. Since many corrective orthodontic problems involve adolescents, there is a strong emphasis on growth and development. Students also gain experience in preventive and interceptive orthodontic care with pre-adolescents. The management of adult patients is also emphasized through courses such as TMJ therapy and Orthognathic Surgery.

This department deals with dental needs of children from infancy till the age of 16 years. It deals with diagnosis, restorative, corrective, surgical and preventive aspect of dentistry effecting this young age group. The dental set up here in the college strives to imbibe healthy dental hygiene practices for children and counselling of parents to achieve this goal. The department has state of art technology of the latest dental equipment and materials to make it on par with emerging trends internationally .It is supported with excellent teaching faculty to guide both the undergraduate as well as post graduate students. The faculty is up to date with many national and international publications to their credit.

The postgraduate unit of the department started in the year 2007 with an intake of four students per year. It has now increased to 6 students per year. The colourful and cheerful ambience of the department is a treat for the patient as well as for the learning of the dental students. Well equipped phantom and dental lab gives a good insight to the working atmosphere to the department. Excellent equipment with good inflow of patient make it a rich learning ground for the aspiring future clinician.

Academic activities are on par to the international standards with regular seminars, journal clubs and case discussions, and are individually supervised to bring out the best among the students. Our Paedodontics and Preventive Dentistry society believes in “ Every child has fundamental right to his or her oral health”. Here we strive to achieve this at our department.

No single individual is qualified enough to successfully practice dentistry without adequately diagnosing and treating his ailing patient efficiently. The department of Oral Medicine and Maxillofacial Radiology through its systematically designed training program teaches its undergraduate and postgraduate students the art of diagnosing various dental diseases.

It is a hub of early detection of tobacco induced precancerous conditions & lesions of the mouth and counseling of the patients to quit the habit is also carried out in this department.

In today’s world of globalization, this department also renders sufficient training in the recent advanced procedures in the field of Dental and Maxillofacial Imaging necessary for prompt diagnosis of complex Maxillofacial diseases.

As part of its undergraduate training program, the students gain sound knowledge in diagnosing common tobacco induced lesions, various dental anomalies, oral ulcerative conditions among many other diseases and disorders. The students are also trained in conventional radiography.

As part of its Postgraduate training program, treatment of medically compromised patients, complex Orofacial pain conditions, Oral cancers with specialized imaging procedures etc. are a few areas which are emphasized upon.

The department of oral pathology and microbiology has been the back bone of many other departments of this institute in providing the much needed information to the general health of patients as well as in detecting many cancers and diseases of the head and neck region.

This department is the first face of the students with regards to dental subjects. This department has the responsibility of teaching Ist year undergraduate students, Oral Anatomy and Histology while in IInd & IIIrd year, Oral Pathology and Microbiology is taught. The students in this section are trained in diseases that manifest in and about the oral cavity. Students are taught about clinical, laboratory, histopathology and therapeutic features of the diseases as well as their etiology and pathogenesis.

Specimens from all the departments are analyzed here. Equipped with the most advanced diagnostic equipments, it has helped post graduate students from different departments with their dissertations. The department fulfills its social obligation by doing investigations at subsidized rates, especially for the needy.

The department has a post graduate course, which started 7 years ago. It admits three post graduate students per year. The duration of training is 3 years. All the post graduates are trained in clinical evaluation, hematology, biochemical analysis, histopathology and immune-histochemistry.

Former post graduate have joined various institutes across India spreading the spark and fame of department and institute. Its faculty has achieved academic excellence through reputed national international publications and deliberations. Even though specialty is continuously undergoing a revolution, this department has secured a significant place in the central part of India.

Public health dentistry is the art and science of preventing and controlling dental diseases and promoting dental health through organized community efforts. It is that form of dental practice that serves community as a patient rather than an individual. It is concerned with dental education of the public, with research and application of the findings of the research, with administration of the dental care programs for the groups and with prevention and control of diseases through community approach.

Public health dentistry deals with prevention of diseases rather than the cure of the disease. The 3 important aspects of Public health dentistry are prevention, control and promotion. Dental health education among public, search for the cause of the disease and program planning for the prevention and promotion of dental health are some of the objectives of public health dentistry.

The Dept. of Public Health Dentistry at this institute is dedicated to serve the community. It regularly conducts dental camps, school health education programmes and many other activities. Various topics covered under this branch are research methodology, ethics, dental manpower, dental finance and many others. The Dept. also observes and celebrates important days like anti-tobacco day, world health day, dentists day, others.

One of the most prestigious departments of our institute; comprises of some of the best teachers in the country. This department is actively involved in teaching the basic design of human body. The knowledge of human anatomy is inculcated in students, with special emphasis on head and neck, by means of cadaver dissection. Department has a modern histology laboratory with all facilities to teach histology. The department boasts of an excellent museum with life sized models and charts. Department, itself is producing excellent histology slides which are sold to various Medical and Dental colleges of the Country.

Human Physiology aims at providing the student comprehensive knowledge of the normal functions of the body to facilitate an understanding of physiological basis of health and disease. Biochemistry provides a sound knowledge of various biochemical reactions relevant to human systems for substance of life. Medical Biochemistry is the most fascinating subject as it deals with the chemical language of life. Exposure to nutrition, anti vitamins, anti metabolites, enzymes and their inhibition, hormonal actions, biochemical genetics and molecular biology etc. will provide a basis for the future study of medical and dental subjects.

The department has sufficient infrastructure and advanced equipment like Colorimeter, PH meter, Centrifuge machines, Magnetic stirrer with hot plate, hot air oven, Serological thermostat water bath, Incubators, Electronic balances, Water distillation plant, Glucometer etc. Various clinical biochemical tests are performed on blood and urine samples, collected from healthy and diseased individuals to make the student understand how it contributes in diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of disease.
